STR x LWA: Ben Randm chats with Laura Bartlett (Discussions may contain Trigger Warnings)

Ben Randm chats with Laura Bartlett, Leeds Women’s Aid Ambassador and Founder of House of Coco Magazine (Discussions may contain Trigger Warnings) Saturday 25th November '23 is the 'International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women' also known as #WhiteRibbonDay. The theme this year is #ChangeTheStory, encouraging individuals and organisations to take action so that women and girls can live their lives free from the fear of violence. To #ChangeTheStory, Leeds Women’s Aid have partnered with local band, Silver Tongued Rascals to promote their new track 'Asking For What' a track that centres around a call-to action on men calling out other men to put a stop to everyday misogyny and harassment. Front man of Silver Tongued Rascals, Ben, said: “We don’t expect fish to fix the pollution in the ocean so why does society keep saying that sexual harassment should have to be resolved by women!?!!! This song is to encourage men to engage in our responsibility in helping resolve what is mainly an issue of our cause by calling out such actions. It's shocking and pathetic that this is lamented as a female issue n pinned on them in solving what is something that is quite literally shoved n forced upon them - this needs to drastically change, and rapid!” Ben met up with members of Women and Girls Alliance Leeds to record a powerful series of interviews including a roundtable discussion on the themes of the song and how these ties into the work we do around female safety. It explores why queer venues are still so vital to small communities, and takes an upfront look at the impact - the good, the bad, and the ugly - mainstream exposure has had on queer culture, as told by the drag artists who helped create it. Meet venue owners, UK drag legends, Drag Race UK stars, and the kings and queens who perform every night in the bars and clubs of UK LGBT+ scenes. Be Here, Be Queer follows the Netflix UK I Like To Watch '21 tour, which stopped at small LGBT+ venues around the UK. The tour saw Drag Race UK stars host movie screenings and drag shows with local talent, all in a bid to kick-start venues hit hard by Covid. ➡️SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE: http://bit.ly/29kBByr About Netflix: Netflix is the world's leading streaming entertainment service with 214 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries, feature films and mobile games across a wide variety of genres and languages.
